Indications/Uses
Bacterial infections eg, resp tract infections (eg, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, mild or moderate community-acquired pneumonia); uncomplicated skin & skin structure infections caused by Staph aureus or Strep pyogenes; complicated skin & skin structure infections caused by methicillin-susceptible Staph aureus, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae or Enterobactercioacae; mild to moderate pelvic inflammatory disease (eg, female upper genital tract infections including salpingitis & endometritis) w/o associated tubo-ovarian or pelvic abscess.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 400 mg once daily. Duration of treatment: Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis 5 days. Acute sinusitis, uncomplicated skin & skin structure infections 7 days. Community-acquired pneumonia 10 days (mild to moderate severity); 7-14 days (sequential oral therapy following IV administration). Complicated skin & soft tissue infection 7-21 days (sequential oral therapy following IV administration). Mild to moderate pelvic inflammatory disease 14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ sufficient liquid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of tendon disease/disorder related to quinolone treatment. Possible QT prolongation. Patients w/ congenital or documented acquired QT prolongation; electrolyte disturbances particularly in uncorrected hypokalaemia; clinically relevant bradycardia; clinically relevant heart failure w/ reduced left-ventricular ejection fraction; history of symptomatic arrhythmias. Concurrently use w/ other drugs that prolong QT interval. Patients w/ impaired liver function (Child Pugh C) & those w/ increased transaminases >5-fold ULN. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn >18 yr.
