Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer & hypersecretory conditions (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Prevention of relapses of duodenal ulcer. Symptomatic relief of GERD & healing of oesophageal erosions or ulceration associated w/ it.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent Duodenal ulcer 40 mg once daily at bedtime or 20 mg bd. Prophylaxis of recurrent duodenal ulcer 20 mg at bedtime. Gastric ulcer 40 mg at bedtime. Gastric hypersecretory conditions (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) 20 mg every 6 hr; up to 160 mg every 6 hr. GERD 20 mg bd for up to 6 wk. Oesophagitis due to GERD 20-40 mg bd for up to 12 wk. Moderate to severe renal impairment May reduce to ½ the dose; or may prolong dosing interval to 36-48 hr.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15-60 min before meals.
Contraindications
Consider risk-benefit when cirrhosis; hepatic & renal impairment; sensitivity to any histamine H2-receptor antagonists exist.
