Bisacodyl
Indications/Uses
Constipation. Prep of diagnostic procedures, in pre- & post-op treatment & in conditions which require defecation to be facilitated.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Constipation (short-term treatment) Adult & childn >10 yr 1-2 tab (5-10 mg) daily before bedtime or 1 supp (10 mg) for immediate effect. Childn 4-10 yr 1 tab (5 mg) daily before bedtime. Prep of diagnostic procedures & pre-op Adult & childn >10 yr 2 tab (10 mg) in the morning & 2 tab (10 mg) in the evening & 1 supp (10 mg) on the following morning. Childn 4-10 yr 1 tab (5 mg) in the evening & 1 supp (5 mg) on the following morning.
Administration
EC tab: Should be taken on an empty stomach: Do not take w/ products which reduce upper GI tract acidity (eg, milk, antacids or PPIs). Swallow whole w/ adequate amount of fluid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Ileus, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions including appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel diseases & severe abdominal pain associated w/ nausea & vomiting. Severe dehydration. EC tab: Rare hereditary conditions that may be incompatible w/ lactose or sucrose. Supp: Not to be used when anal fissures or ulcerative proctitis w/ mucosal damage are present.
