Ciprofloxacin HCl
Indications/Uses
Eye/ear drops: Corneal ulcers & superficial eye & its adnexa infections caused by ciprofloxacin-susceptible strains particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa & other gm -ve bacteria resistant to usual treatments. Localized or diffuse otitis externa accompanied by a strong inflammatory reaction caused by ciprofloxacin-susceptible strains. Eye oint: Bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of Staph aureus, Staph epidermidis, Strep pneumoniae, Strep viridans group & H. influenzae.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Eye/ear drops Corneal ulcers 1st day: 2 drops into affected eye(s) every 15 min for 1st 6 hr then 2 drops into affected eye(s) every 30 min for remainder of the day. 2nd day: 2 drops into affected eye(s) hrly. 3rd-14th day: 2 drops into affected eye(s) 4 hrly. Superficial bacterial eye & adnexa infections 1-2 drops into conjuctival sac of infected eye(s) 2 hrly during daytime for the 1st 2 days then 1-2 drops 4 hrly during daytime until bacterial infection is resolved. Apply during waking hr. Otic use 3-4 drops bd-qds or more frequently if required. Alternatively, insert tent of gauze or hydrophilic cotton plug saturated w/ soln bd into ear duct. Leave in place for 1-2 days. Duration of treatment: 5-10 days. Eye oint Apply ½" into the conjunctival sac tds on the 1st 2 days, then apply ½" oint ribbon bd for the next 5 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin HCl or other quinolones.
