Cefazolin Mevon

Sepsis; resp tract, skin & soft tissue, urinary tract, genital, bile duct, bone & joint infections; endocarditis in adults & childn. IV: Pre-op prophylaxis of post-op infections in neurosurgery (craniotomy, liquor derivation); cardiac, thoracic, vascular, GI, hepatobiliary & orthopaedic surgery; caesarean section; abdominal or vag hysterectomy; surgery of the head & neck w/ oropharynx opening.

IV/IM Adult 500 mg-1 g every 8-12 hr. Childn & infant (>1 mth) 25-50 mg/kg every 24 hr. Severe infection Renal impairment: CrCl 20-50 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 250 mg daily every 6 hr or 500 mg daily every 12 hr, 10-20 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 250 mg daily every 12 hr or 500 mg daily every 24 hr, 5-10 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 250 mg daily every 24-36 hr or 500 mg daily every 48-72 hr, <5 mL/min in patient on haemodialysis Starting dose: 500 mg IV. Maintenance dose: 500 mg daily every 72 hr. Mild infection Renal impairment: CrCl 20-50 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 125-250 mg daily every 12 hr, 10-20 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 125-250 mg daily every 24 hr, 5-10 mL/min Starting dose: 500 mg. Maintenance dose: 75-125 mg daily every 24 hr, <5 mL/min in patient on haemodialysis Starting dose: 500 mg IV. Maintenance dose: 50-75 mg daily every 72 hr. IV Prophylaxis of post-op infection 1 g during anaesth induction followed by 0.5-1 g every 6-8 hr for 24 hr post-op. Operative procedure lasting >2 hr 0.5-1 g during surgery.

Hypersensitivity. Not recommended in preterm newborns & neonates.

Cephalosporins

J01DB04 - cefazolin ; Belongs to the class of first-generation cephalosporins. Used in the systemic treatment of infections.

POM
