Indications/Uses
Maintenance of general anaesth in adults & childn >3 yr. Induction of general anaesth in adults & child >1 mth. Sedation for diagnostic & surgical procedures, alone or in combination w/ local or regional anaesth in adults & childn >16 yr. Sedation of ventilated patients >16 yr in ICU.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Individualized dosing. Induction of anaesth Adult Titrate approx 20-40 mg every 10 sec. <55 yr 1.5-2.5 mg/kg. Patient of ASA grades III & IV Approx 20 mg every 10 sec. Maintenance of anaesth Adult 4-12 mg/kg/hr using continuous infusion. Less stressful surgical procedures (eg, minimal invasive surgery): Approx 4 mg/kg/hr as continuous infusion. Elderly, patient in unstable general conditions or hypovolaemic; ASA grades III & IV 4 mg/kg/hr; increments of 25-50 mg using repeat bolus inj. General anaesth Childn >8 yr Induction: approx 2.5 mg/kg, 1 mth-3 yr 2.5-4 mg/kg. Sedation for diagnostic & surgical procedures Adult 0.5-1 mg/kg over 1-5 min for onset of sedation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr (for sedation in ICU).
