Cephalexin
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint, genito-urinary (including acute prostatitis) & dental infections. Otitis media.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-4 g daily in divided doses. Most infections 500 mg every 8 hr. Skin & soft tissue infection, streptococcal pharyngitis & mild, uncomplicated UTI 250 mg every 6 hr or 500 mg every 12 hr. Childn 25-50 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Most infections Childn 5-12 yr 250 mg tds. Skin & soft tissue infection, streptococcal pharyngitis & mild, uncomplicated UTI Total daily dose may be divided & administered every 12 hr. Severe infections Dosage may be doubled. Max daily dose: 4 g daily. β-haemolytic streptococcal infection Administer for at least 10 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalexin or cephalosporins.
