Artesunate

Indications/Uses

Initial treatment of severe malaria in adults & childn.

Dosage/Direction for Use

IV Adult & childn ≤18 yr 2.4 mg/kg at 0, 12 & 24 hr. Patient unable to tolerate oral treatment after at least 24 hr 2.4 mg/kg once every 24 hr (from 48 hr after start of treatment).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to IV artesunate or any other artemisinin antimalarial agent.
