Erythromycin is used to treat acne (also known as pimple).
Apply Erythromycin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as topical solution, gel, or pads.
To use this medicine:
- Wash your hands and the affected area.
- Clean and dry the affected area before application.
- For topical solution, shake the bottle well prior to use. Replace the cap with the applicator top provided. Turn the bottle upside down and dab the applicator top onto the affected area. For gel, apply a thin layer on the skin. Rub it gently until it disappears. For the pads, rub onto the affected areas as directed by the physician. Each pledget should be used once and discarded.
- Wash your hands after each application.
- Allow the applied medicine to dry before using any other product or makeup.
Avoid any contact of this medicine with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine accidentally gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Erythromycin must be used regularly for it to be effective. Continue using this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop using it unless instructed by the doctor.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Erythromycin if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do not apply on large areas of your skin or if it is broken.
Avoid using skin cleansers, medicated soaps or cosmetics containing alcohol as this may cause irritation.
Erythromycin may cause any of the following side effects: skin irritation such as burning or itching sensation, dryness, peeling, redness and oiliness of the skin, and eye irritation.
If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop using Erythromycin and inform your doctor immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe or if you experience other side effects.
Let your doctor know if you are using any creams, ointments, or other medicines on the affected area.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
