Description:
Mechanism of Action: Epalrestat inhibits aldose reductase enzyme which catalyses the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. Accumulation of sorbitol in certain cells occurs only in conditions of hyperglycaemia and resulting in hyperosmotic effect which may be involved in pathogenesis of some diabetic complications. Aldose reducatse inhibitors have no effect on blood-glucose concentrations. |
