Trivalent influenza vaccine (contains influenza virus haemagglutinin proteins, produced by recombinant DNA technology)
Indications/Uses
Active immunization for the prevention of influenza disease in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to trivalent flu vaccine or to any trace residuals eg, octylphenol ethoxylate.
Special Precautions
Must not be injected intravascularly. Must not be mixed w/ other vaccines in the same syringe. Caution in case of an anaphylactic event following administration. Postpone vaccination in patients w/ acute febrile illness until fever is resolved. Ab response in patients w/ endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression may be insufficient to prevent flu. Must be administered w/ caution to individuals w/ thrombocytopaenia or bleeding disorder. Syncope can occur as psychogenic response to needle inj. May not protect all vaccinees. Assess risks & benefits before administering to a pregnant or breast-feeding woman. Safety & efficacy have not yet been established in individuals <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, fatigue; myalgia, arthralgia; local tenderness & pain. Nausea; firmness/swelling, redness, fever, shivering/chills.
Drug Interactions
Always administer at different inj sites if to be given at the same time as another injectable vaccine.
