Levodropropizine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of cough in adults & childn >2 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Take for a period not longer than 14 days. Adult & childn >12 yr 10 mL up to tds at intervals of at least 6 hr. Childn >2 yr 1 mg/kg tds, for a total daily dose of 3 mg/kg.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take between meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Bronchorrhea. Limited mucociliary function (Kartagener's syndrome, ciliary dyskinesia). Severe liver impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Use for only a short period of time (max 14 days). Should not be taken by patients w/ rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. Can cause somnolence, which should be taken into account when driving or using machines. Caution in patients w/ serious renal insufficiency (CrCl <35 mL/min). Consider dose reduction in case of liver impairment. Safety & efficacy in childn <24 mth have not been established.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea; exhaustion, somnolence, dizziness, headache, numbness; palpitations; hypersensitivity reactions, allergic skin reactions.
Drug Interactions
Caution when sedative drugs are simultaneously administered to particularly sensitive individuals. Possibility of interaction w/ other medicines that are metabolised in the liver.
